WHat You REALLY need for a baby

What I want to share is that in fact you don’t NEED anything (nothing material at least). “But what about a cot, and nappies and a pram?”,  I hear you say.

Well, did you know that most things we assume about babies are actually part of our cultural conditioning? Even seemingly essential baby items, like nappies, are actually part of our culture and a choice we make as parents.

Think about toys we buy and how many toys we have... did you know that toys for kids are a recent addition? (and there's a well documented shift in toys in the last 40 years from simple entertainment to "educational"). And anyone who’s given a plastic box with a lid to their baby knows that there’s more entertainment in that than any other educational toy.

Our sleeping arrangements, whether we buy a cot or co-sleep or sleep in separate spaces... even shoes are part of our cultural conditioning!

This is why I find ancestral (prehistoric) human behaviours fascinating. By exploring our biological norms and physiological expectations, we can better tune into our values, what we desire and what is important for ourselves, our children, and our families, even if is different from what our culture promotes.

If you're interested in learning more about raising babies without nappies or using the potty from birth, in our culture this practice is called Elimination Communication and I have a self-paced course (and a free preview you can watch).
