POTTY MASTERY

help your child recognise and respond to what their body is saying.

This course helps you support your child without resorting to power struggles nor rewards.

WHAT IS POTTY MASTERY?

The potty mastery course is a clear and reliable method to transition from nappies to the toilet, based on the understanding that toilet learning is simply learning about our bodies. In this course, you’ll understand children’s development so you can trust them and yourself to transition to the toilet.

Avoid threats, battles, bribes and sticker charts by following a method that taps into your child’s desire for autonomy and mastery and helps you feel good in the process!

this course is for you if:

  • If you are a parent of a child 12 months and over

  • If you would like to learn a method that is respectful AND that prioritises learning about their body

  • If you want a method without rewards (or punishments)

  • If you've tried a different method of potty training but it didn't work

  • If you would like practical tips to deal with fear or resistance to use the potty (again, no rewards or bribing here either)

  • If you would like to approach potty learning differently (and maybe even have fun....!)

  • If you're looking for a method that is not authoritarian but respects your needs too

  • If you’re worried about whether your child is ready or not, mostly because they’re not showing any interest.

  • If you did EC (Elimination Communication) with your baby but are now wondering how to “hand over” to them and use the toilet full time.

what is inside the potty mastery course?

  • There are a total of 17 videos to watch in your own time.

  • Each video is between 2 and 15 minutes long, so the course is a total of 3 hours.

  • You get lifetime access and can come back to it whenever you need.

  • There is also a 10-page handbook to help you be super clear on the method and with lots of tips and things you can say and do to support your child in the process.

  • The class is suitable for parents, caregivers, childminders or anyone working with babies aged 18+ months (but you can start as early as 12 months).

The course content includes

  1. Introduction

  2. The method:

Prep phase, the method, independence, what you’ll need, naps & night time, readiness

  3. Extras:

Nursery & childcare, fear & resistance, play ideas, adapting the method according to age, adapting the method if you did EC & how to spot constipation.

what makes this course different?

Forget the readiness checklist, instead in this course I invite you to look at your child. We chose to use nappies and now we can lead the way out of nappies, meeting our children where they are developmentally.

  • Did you know that regressions, withholding and refusal to use the toilet all have an emotional cause? The majority of potty training advice ignores this fact, creating an impasse for parents desperate to help their children use the toilet.

  • This isn’t just a course for your children. This is also a course for YOU. In this course we also look at our own stories - whether we struggle with mess, whether we fear we’ll get it wrong or lack trust in our child, all of these come into play when supporting our child in something that can be messy, in learning new skills and in responding to their body signals.

  • Did you know there are a few simple things you can do from the time your baby is 6+ months that will make the process a lot easier? Something as simple as being mindful of the language we use and how we change nappies can make a world of difference when we’re ready to lead the potty learning process!

“THIS COURSE GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO POTTY TRAIN MY TODDLER AT 22 MONTHS. MARU’S STRAIGHT FORWARD APPROACH PROVIDED ME WITH A CLEAR PLAN AND THE TRAINING ITSELF WAS A GREAT SUCCESS - WE EVEN FOUND THE POTTY TRAINING PROCESS REALLY ENJOYABLE AND OUR TODDLER HAD FUN TOO! WITHIN A WEEK IT JUST BECAME PART OF OUR ROUTINE AND DEFINITELY LESS HASSLE THAN NAPPIES. I’M NOW WONDERING WHY I DIDN’T POTTY TRAIN MY TODDLER MONTHS AGO!”

— Jenni, mum of 3

FAQs

  • You can start anytime. Yes, really - you can start from birth with Elimination Communication. But if your child is 12 months or walking, you can start with the prep-phase straight away. The course also includes a method for children under 20 months which can be done very gradually. And really, we’ve got to start sometime so it’s never too late!

  • I have found the majority of potty training methods are parent-led, which often leads to resistance, regressions or point-blank refusal. Also, some children are more sensitive than others and most methods don’t take children’s feelings into account.
This one does. If you tried before and it didn’t work, I would encourage you to buy the course and start with the “Play for potty learning” section.

  • If your child is withholding wee or poo, or if they’re refusing to poo anywhere but in their nappy, I would highly recommend booking a consultation first. Yes, the course will probably help - especially if you focus on the play, but if you’re not familiar with attachment play and holding space for feelings, a consultation would be the best place to start. If you haven’t tried potty training you may want to buy the course too. But if you have tried and that triggered the withholding, or if your child suffers from constipation and you’re worried then contact me to book a consultation.

  • As an experienced Aware Parenting Instructor and Potty Training Consultant, I bring in-depth knowledge and expertise to guide you through the toilet learning process. You can trust my evidence-based strategies and compassionate approach. A lot of parents feel comfortable implementing the course straight away, for others, especially those who have tried potty training before, a consultation or Whatsapap support feels like the safest option to go through this transition together.
