Reconnecting with attachment play

Today I'm sharing 3 easy games to reconnect with your child in under 3 minutes after a separation.

No deep chats. No forced eye contact. Just play. Whether they're 18 months or 8 years old, these games work every time - giggles guaranteed.

Check if their body parts are still attached. Count their toes. Look in their mouth. Act extremely concerned that they're missing something.

Spot their belly button and panic—“YOU’RE DEFLATING!” Call the emergency services, bonus points for using their foot as a phone. Panic again when you spot their ears and nose and worry all the air is coming out of them.

Spot a freckle or a mole? Be horrified. Try to scrub it off. Demand to return them to the shop.

It’s silly. It’s fast. It works.

Because toddlers and kids feel the separation. Even if it was just a few hours. Even if they seemed fine.

And when we skip reconnection — because we’re racing toward dinner or bedtime or just want five minutes to breathe after a long day — everything gets harder.
Cue the whining. The meltdowns. The “I don’t like pasta” even though they loved pasta yesterday.

Not because they’re being difficult. Because they haven’t landed.

Play helps them land. It gets the stuck energy out. It rebuilds connection. It tells their nervous system, “You’re safe now. I’m here.”

If this kind of play speaks to you, I’ve created something special:
